Colonial Topsail celebrates America’s 250th with free family fun Feb. 21 in Topsail Beach—reenactors, demos, speakers, tea party & lunch.

The Historical Society of Topsail Island is kicking off a year of programming tied to America’s 250th anniversary with Colonial Topsail, a community event designed to bring local history to life for visitors of all ages.

Set for Friday, Feb. 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Colonial Topsail will be held at The Historic Assembly Building, 720 Channel Blvd., Topsail Beach. Admission is free, making it an easy stop for families, history lovers, and anyone curious about the region’s past.

Throughout the day, guests can explore a wide range of hands-on and interactive experiences. The event will include children’s activities, guest speakers, and a festive “tea party” on the Intracoastal Waterway. Attendees will also be able to watch skilled artisans at work during demonstrations by weavers and spinners, and step back in time with an encampment of reenactors.

A flyer for "Visit Colonial Topsail" features people in colonial costumes, event details, logos, and a QR code. Event is on February 21, 2026, at the Historic Assembly Building, Topsail Beach, NC.

For those who want to join in on the fun, Colonial Topsail will also offer Virginia Reel dance lessons, giving visitors a chance to learn a classic dance style associated with early American social gatherings.

Food will be available through a special Colonial Lunch featuring Brunswick stew, cornbread, a drink, and dessert for $12 per person. Lunch reservations are required and can be made online at https://topsailhistoricalsociety.org.

“We are pleased to kick off the America 250th anniversary with Colonial Topsail,” said Kim McClusky, the America 250 committee chair. “Our region has significant Revolutionary War history. Colonial Topsail will be a fun, family-friendly, awareness-raising celebration of our history.”

Colonial Topsail is part of a broader effort to highlight the stories, people, and places that shaped the area during the Revolutionary era and beyond. Whether you come for the demonstrations, the speakers, the reenactors, or simply to enjoy an afternoon by the water, the event offers a welcoming way to connect with the past.
