Bourbon and beer come together to bring home the win, whether your team does or not.

Grab your beer and meet me here! And by here, I mean in front of the TV for the football game.

Our neighbors are huge Steelers fans while we are Panthers fans. We hosted a friendly rivalry viewing of the game at our home when the two teams played. I wanted to make a cocktail that the guys would not shy away from but was also appealing to us ladies.

I knew their beer of choice was IPA, so naturally I opted for a combination of that with some other tasty flavors of the season. Bourbon is my spouse’s liquor of choice, and it works so well with apple cider. By combining bourbon, apple cider, lemon juice, bitters and maple syrup, this cocktail omits the aromatics of apple pie spices. The IPA brings it home with a hoppy bitterness on the end of the sweet notes – it is perfect for a cool afternoon watching football.

I chose to serve these cocktails in Mason jars because I tend to hoard them and thought this was a good use for them. Recently, Mason jars have become the hipster way to serve drinks, but I think they are also perfect for guests because they don’t tip over easily like other types of cocktail glasses — which is ideal for jumping and cheering in front of the TV. They also have a thicker, tempered glass so they do not break as easily and keep a drink colder longer.

This cocktail went well with the veggie platter that our neighbors brought and the goat cheese dip that we offered with pretzels.

If you are looking to serve something a little bit different that goes well with football, crisp air and munchies, then this is your go-to.

I should note that the Panthers did not win, so it could be considered a lucky charm for Steelers fans.

Enjoy!
