Bob Fankboner will join the Pender County Schools leadership team as communications coordinator.

Pender County Schools (PCS) is excited to announce the hiring of Bob Fankboner to the position of communications coordinator for the district. He will assume the role officially on October 4. Fankboner replaces outgoing Communications Coordinator Alex Riley, who is leaving the district for another opportunity in the region.

“I’m very excited to join the team at Pender County Schools,” Fankboner says. “The community here was always welcoming to me during my time as a journalist, and I’m looking forward to shining a spotlight on the positive things going on in the schools moving forward.”

Fankboner comes to PCS after spending more than 20 years as an on-air personality for WECT (Bob Bonner). During his award-winning career as a journalist, he covered an array of historic moments in the region, becoming a fixture viewers counted on for information on a daily basis.

A native of Ohio, Fankboner graduated from Central Florida and after a stop in Georgia has called coastal North Carolina home since 2000. He lives here with his wife, Kelli, and twin daughters.

“The work Bob has done in this region over the past two decades is unparalleled,” Pender County Schools Superintendent Dr. Steven Hill says. “He’s someone people know and someone they’ve come to rely on. We’re thrilled to have him come on board to help us inform the community about what’s going on in Pender County Schools.”
