Mint to Chill, with a Twist

A frozen twist on the classic mojito delivers the perfect balance of citrus, mint and icy refreshment.

If a classic mojito is your go-to summer drink, this frozen version is the frostier twist you didn’t know you needed. Minty and ice cold, it’s perfect for a hot summer day when you want something instantly refreshing.

I’ll be honest: I wasn’t always a mojito person. That changed after a spring break trip to Cancun, where mojitos seemed to show up at exactly the right moments — poolside, after a long beach walk or at sunset. Somewhere between the lime, mint and the vacation pace, I came home officially converted.

Once I was back, I decided I needed to recreate that vibe at home, so I headed to my local Ace Hardware to pick up a mint plant. That’s when I spotted something labeled “Mojito Mint.” I had no idea there was such a thing. The only difference I noticed was that the stems on the mojito mint plants were more purple, while the stems on the regular mint plants were green. It smelled amazing so I bought it for this recipe. Of course, you can absolutely use regular mint in this recipe too.

For sweetness, this recipe uses simple syrup, but there’s an easy shortcut if you don’t want to make it: Swap in agave nectar to taste. It blends smoothly and keeps the drink quick and easy.

Best of all, frozen mojitos are simple. All you do is blend lime juice, mint and sweetener, then add rum and crushed ice until it’s frothy and slushy. The result is refreshing, delicious and dangerously easy to drink. Each sip takes me right back to those salty spring break days of relaxation by the sea.

Two tall glasses filled with a frothy green drink, garnished with fresh mint leaves and a slice of lime, each with a straw, sitting on a table outdoors with a blurred background.
