At Hampstead Preschool of the Arts children are empowered to take risks in learning by providing a setting fostering self-esteem, confidence and respect.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, there’s a new preschool in Hampstead. Heading north on U.S. Highway 17 just past Matter More Coffee on the left is the recently opened Hampstead Preschool of the Arts (HPA). After successfully operating the Wilmington Preschool of the Arts for five years, owners Margie and James Butts wanted to emulate the success of their first location with a new one in Hampstead. After some remodeling for expansion, they are ready to bring a top-level preschool experience to local children.

“By providing a setting that fosters self-esteem, builds confidence and is based on respect, it is our goal that the children will be empowered to take risks in learning,” Margie says. “Hampstead is growing, and children are thirsty for some normalcy in these crazy times. We are able to offer it to them right here where they live and play.”

With a highly competent team of creative, well-educated staff who love to work together, HPA seeks to establish a positive personal interaction with their children and regard each child as an important, capable individual.

“We believe that young children are concrete learners who learn by doing,” Margie says. “Children use all their senses to explore and learn about their environment. They feel a sense of security from pattern, rhythm and predictability within their days.”

HPA offers half-day (8:30 am to 12:30 pm), extended-day (8 am to 2:30 pm) and full-day preschool (7 am to 5:30 pm). They offer daily specials such as art, dance, music, soccer and lots of outside play along with kindergarten prep.

“We hope to expand to offer a K to 5 private Christian school and would welcome a group of parents to start a board to help us gather families that want to be our founding families,” Margie says.

Margie adds that young children are looking to the adults in their lives to provide a safe and nurturing environment where they have lots of time for uninterrupted play, to participate in real-life activities and to simply enjoy being a child.

HPA hosts a fall festival, a Christmas show and a spring art show to show off the kids’ artwork and get the families together for a chance to get to know each other.

Living in the Hickory, North Carolina, area since I was a kid, my parents brought us to the North Carolina coast every summer — usually to the Outer Banks — so the salt life has always been part of me. When my daughter graduated from high school and started college in Raleigh, I immediately began to realize it was the perfect opportunity for me to go coastal. This area fits perfectly with my many hobbies, which include fishing, tennis, pickleball and golf. It’s difficult to describe to others how amazing the lifestyle is in southeastern North Carolina until you experience it for yourself! I have already met a plethora of amazing people in my sales and marketing position at Carolina Marketing Company, and I can’t wait to meet you!
