Explore 40+ sites with the Roadmap to Freedom Passport across 8 SE North Carolina counties—collect stamps, visit hidden gems, and earn prizes by Dec. 31.
History lovers and weekend explorers have a new reason to hit the road in southeastern North Carolina. The Moores Creek Battleground Association, in partnership with the First in Freedom Festival, is offering the Roadmap to Freedom Passport—a travel-style booklet designed to guide residents and visitors to more than 40 historic and cultural destinations across the region.
Valid through December 31, the passport encourages day-trip adventures to local museums, landmarks, and community favorites while highlighting the lead-up to America’s 250th anniversary.
More than 40 destinations in 8 counties
The First in Freedom Passport includes stops across eight counties in southeastern North Carolina:
• Bladen
• Brunswick
• Columbus
• Duplin
• New Hanover
• Onslow
• Pender
• Sampson
Featured destinations include the Wilmington Railroad Museum, Missiles and More Museum, N.C. Maritime Museum, Duplin County Veterans Museum, and Flying Machine Brewing Co., along with many other sites that showcase the area’s rich heritage.
How the passport works
The Roadmap to Freedom Passport functions like a traditional travel passport. At each participating location, visitors receive a stamp and signature to verify their visit.
After visiting most or all of the sites, participants can return their completed passport to Moores Creek National Battlefield to become eligible for end-of-year prizes. Prizes include America 250 commemorative items, awarded based on the number of destinations visited.
