Emergency Dental Care

Don’t worry — Pierpan Dentistry is still providing emergency care despite the stay at home orders.

With so many drastic changes in our everyday lives now that we are sheltering at home, it’s comforting to know we still have at least limited access to most all of our vital services.

Imagine having a horrible toothache or breaking a tooth and not being able to see a dentist immediately? This is why I spoke with Monica Pierpan of Pierpan Dentistry in Hampstead and Jacksonville. I wanted to know what dental services were still available under our current COVID-19 social-distancing measures.

I asked her for just a bit of background information on her business. Pierpan told me she and her husband, Henry, met in dental school in Chapel Hill — and that it was love at first sight. In 1995 together they opened their first office in Hampstead. They established a very loyal customer base and became one of the area’s most successful dental offices. Then in 2009 they acquired another office from a retiring dentist in Jacksonville.

“Being able to serve two communities has been a blessing for Henry and me,” Pierpan says. “We have met so many amazing individuals and families.”

Fast forward to today, and patients are still in need of emergency dental treatment despite social-distancing measures. The Center for Disease Control doesn’t want people having to go to the emergency room for a toothache. So they require that the patient contacts the dentist office prior to any procedure. This gives the dentist the opportunity to screen patient over the phone.

“Our number one priority is to keep our staff and patients safe,” Pierpan says. “For those of us giving dental treatment, this is normal protocol for us as we have to protect ourselves every day.”PierpanFamilyDentistryStaff

During this social-distancing mandate, they are able to see only one patient at a time, and the patient must be medically screened before they are seen. Only dental emergencies such as toothache, infection or root canal can be treated — no elective or cosmetic treatment is available.

With so many things to worry about now in this age of the coronavirus, it’s good to know we can still count on our dentists to take care of us.

“We see how this is affecting everyone from our staff to our customers and are glad to be able to do our part to help get through these times to a brighter tomorrow,” Pierpan says.

Living in the Hickory, North Carolina, area since I was a kid, my parents brought us to the North Carolina coast every summer — usually to the Outer Banks — so the salt life has always been part of me. When my daughter graduated from high school and started college in Raleigh, I immediately began to realize it was the perfect opportunity for me to go coastal. This area fits perfectly with my many hobbies, which include fishing, tennis, pickleball and golf. It’s difficult to describe to others how amazing the lifestyle is in southeastern North Carolina until you experience it for yourself! I have already met a plethora of amazing people in my sales and marketing position at Carolina Marketing Company, and I can’t wait to meet you!
