Cold Sapporo, fresh strawberries and citrus land right in that sweet spot between playful and polished.
Whenever I walk into an Asian restaurant, there’s one beverage I reach for almost automatically: a cold Sapporo. It’s the kind of beer that shows up frosty, clean and ready to play nice with everything from sushi rolls to sizzling stir-fry. As a pale lager, Sapporo is crisp and light, with a smooth finish that doesn’t overpower food.
That dependable go-to is exactly what inspired this drink. While putting together an Asian-inspired dish at home, I wanted a pairing that felt a little more special than simply cracking a can — something unique, bright and still rooted in my favorite beer.
The idea was simple: keep Sapporo as the base, then build a quick, aromatic twist that would lift the whole meal.
And since spring in coastal North Carolina means fresh and fragrant strawberries are abundant, I though I’d try to include them along with a few other ingredients. A handful of ripe berries, a squeeze of lemon and a touch of simple syrup turned that familiar lager into something lightly sweet, gently tart and ridiculously refreshing.
The result was delicious, fresh aromatic and excellent. The lemon adds a clean, zippy snap, while the strawberries bring a soft fruitiness that feels bright rather than heavy.
Together, they make the beer even more crisp — like it’s been tuned up for warm weather. It’s aromatic, too: the moment the strawberries are juiced over ice, the glass smells like a spring market stand.
Best of all, the combination is easygoing. It’s not a complicated cocktail that steals the show — it’s a bright, bubbly companion that makes each sip feel like a reset.
